Wisdom Can Be Found in Surprising Places

Evergreen — a developed piece

•1 min

Wisdom can be found in surprising places. Interpretation should remain open to correction by the wider community, especially when dealing with symbolic narratives and contested theological claims. Other readers may have seen something we have missed, particularly when they stand outside our usual interpretive community.

It is wrong to dismiss interpretations from other sources before allowing them to challenge our own. Discernment is not the defence of a private reading, but the humble testing of what we think we know.

This includes the wisdom carried by people whose belonging is re-situated by divine love. To be named and loved by God can mean being misunderstood by the world, because divine love gives people a different social location. Those whom dominant communities overlook may see truths that insiders have learned not to notice.

...wisdom is not merely intellectual understanding; it is preparedness to act faithfully before the crisis arrives. Related seedlings -...
