Christian Critique Should Begin With Complicity
Seed — an idea to develop
A defence of Christianity must directly engage the question of why the Church has been complicit in so much evil, rather than simply declaring Christianity innocent. This raises theological questions about what the Church is and what salvation means: our ecclesiology and soteriology must account for the Church’s historical failures and distortions.
Jacques Ellul’s The Subversion of Christianity is a key conversation partner, especially in its examination of the contradictions between the biblical revelation and the Church’s actual practice.
